The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued two recalls. One issue is bolts that could break allowing a unit to fall off a vehicle. This could ruin your entire day if you are following the afflicted vehicle. The other issue is a faulty sensor that could cause a device to unintentionally strike other objects.

SUMMARY:
Yakima Products, Inc. (Yakima) is recalling certain SpareTime, two bike, rack systems, part number 8002598, manufactured from November 1, 2011, through October 30, 2012. These racks are for use on vehicles with a rear hatch door mounted spare tire system. The affected bike racks have mounting bolts that may break.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the mounting bolts break, the bike rack may fall from the vehicle, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
REMEDY:
Yakima will notify owners and mail replacement bolts with instructions to owners, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin in February 2013. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

SUMMARY:
Spartan is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 RMP 100 and 2008-2010 MMP 100 aerial vehicle apparatus. These vehicles are equipped with a single platform inclinometer that may provide an intermittent signal allowing the platform to be tilted more than below the horizontal plane.
CONSEQUENCE:
The intermittent signal may allow the aerial platform to be tilted more than below the horizontal plane which could allow the platform to strike nearby objects or people increasing the risk of injury or property damage.
REMEDY:
Spartan will notify the owners, and dealers will replace the single inclinometer with a dual inclinometer installed in a sealed enclosure, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in late February 2013. Owners may contact Spartan at 1-800-867-6478, Option 2.
