Recalls Of The Day, May 10, 2013

Two recalls have been announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  One issue is a bent shock absorber that could impair vehicle control.  The other issue is a software glitch that could cause the engine throttle to stick at a specific speed impairing a driver's ability to control speed.

Both issues could result in injury or worse.  If your vehicle is affected please have it repaired right away.

SUMMARY:

Koni North America (KONI) is recalling certain shock absorbers with model numbers 8245-1146L, 8245-1146R, 8245-1201L, 8245-1201R, 8245-1203L, and 8245-1203R. These shock absorbers were manufactured January 2008 through April 2013. The affected absorbers were manufactured with an incorrectly welded bracket which may cause the shock absorber to bend and rest on the drive shaft.

CONSEQUENCE:

A bent shock absorber may compromise vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:

KONI will notify distributors and advise them to contact their customers of the recall. The shock absorbers will be replaced free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in May 2013. SUMMARY:

Volvo Bus Corporation is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 9700 coaches manufactured from August 28, 2008, through April 19, 2013. Certain conditions may cause the affected coaches to go into a software controlled mode that would result in the throttle signal being fixed at 1750rpms regardless of throttle pedal input from the driver.

CONSEQUENCE:

The driver may lose the ability to control the bus's speed, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:

Volvo Bus will notify owners and dealers will remedy the software calibrations in the affected coaches, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by July 1, 2013.
