Component: EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE
Potential Number of Units Affected: 36
Summary: Automotive Innovations, Inc. (AII) is recalling certain Electronic Gas/Brake (EGB) systems, produced from January 1, 2000, through July 11, 2012, installed as adaptive equipment on motor vehicles. The equipment was produced without an adequate back-up brake diagnostic system. As such, it may be possible for the driver to operate the vehicle without knowing the back-up brake is malfunctioning.
Consequence: Without the driver being alerted that the back-up brake system has malfunctioned, the driver may continue to operate the vehicle as normal, and if the primary brake system system also fails, braking performance would be reduced increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: AII will notify owners and repair the vehicles free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided the agency with a notification schedule. Owners may cantact AII at 1-508-697-6006.
Notes: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. |
