Shanghai OnStar Gets Million ‘Holiday Week’ Calls

SHANGHAI – Shanghai OnStar took more than 200 calls a minute during the recent ‘Golden Week’ holiday, helping more than 1 million people in China between Sept. 29 and Oct. 7.

Customers, many of whom were traveling in their cars for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, needed help with directions or vehicle diagnostic and contacted Shanghai OnStar or used its interactive services at record levels.

On Oct. 1 alone, OnStar advisors answered nearly 120,000 calls to help customers with driving directions, diagnose problems with their cars and aid those involved in crashes. That was more than double the number of calls the company receives on a typical day.

Shanghai OnStar customers also used the mobile app feature nearly 75,000 times during the holiday break. The mobile app allows users to remotely start their vehicles, access vehicle diagnostic information, search destinations and get turn-by-turn navigation securely from their smart phones.
“OnStar once again proved its value to our growing family of customers during the recent holiday,” said Shanghai OnStar General Manager Diane Jurgens. “We are providing a level of safety, security and peace of mind that no other telematics service can match to make driving a more pleasurable experience.”
