Recalls Of The Day, January 11, 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced two recalls.  One issue is seat belts are not properly anchored.  They may not securely hold in a crash.  The other issue is a cruise control system that does not disengage when the brakes are applied.

Both issues could cause injury or worse.  These problems could ruin your entire day!

Please have your vehicle repaired as soon as possible for we do not want any harm to come to readers of this blog.

Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s):
AUTOCAR / XPERT 2012
Manufacturer: Autocar Industries, LLCReport Receipt Date: JAN 09, 2013
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V006000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: SEAT BELTS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 52
Summary:
Autocar Industries, LLC is recalling certain model year 2012 Xpert vehicles manufactured October 17, 2011, through September 17, 2012; and with serial numbers in the range 213522 through 215336. The seat belt anchorages fail to sustain the 3000 pound forces for the specified length of time. Therefore, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence:
In the event of a crash, an insufficient seat belt anchorage may prevent the seat belt from properly restraining the occupant. This increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Remedy:
Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will repair the seat belts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on March 1, 2013. Owners may contact Autocar at 1-765-489-5499.
Notes:
Autocar's recall campaign number is M-1208. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s):
FOREST RIVER / BERKSHIRE 2010-2012
FOREST RIVER / CHARLESTON 2010-2012
Manufacturer: Forest River, Inc.Report Receipt Date: JAN 07, 2013
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V005000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL
Potential Number of Units Affected: 451
Summary:
Forest River is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Berkshire and Charleston diesel motorhomes. The chassis are equipped with connectors for diode jumpers that may come loose, resulting in an open circuit. Two circuits are affected: The one that disengages the cruise control with brake pedal use, and the one that illuminates the brake lights with brake pedal use.
Consequence:
Failure of the cruise control to disengage when the brakes are applied may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Without the brake lights illuminating when the brakes are applied, the driver's intent is not communicated, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is performing this recall on behalf of Forest River. DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the diode jumpers to make sure they are fully locked in place and will correct the vehicles as needed. The recall is expected to begin on January 28, 2013. Owners should contact Daimler Trucks Warranty Campaigns Department at (800) 547-0712, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time Monday through Friday, e-mail address DTNA.Warranty.Campaigns@Daimler.com, or the Customer Assistance Center at (800) FTL-HELP after normal business hours.
Notes:
