Tires Made From Dandelions

The drudgery of battling dandelions is not for the faint of heart.  You dig, pull, spray and as soon as you think you have won the battle another beauty pops up a few hours later.  It's a never ending battle.

Well, all is not lost.  Just when you think you are about to throw your arms up in defeat, there might come a time when you will want to fertilize a crop of dandelions.

Just yesterday Continental Tire announced they are in the process of developing natural rubber from dandelions to make tires.  A joint effort between Continental Tire and The Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology, Applied Ecology Julius Kuehn-Institute has produced and tested the first tire tread made 100 percent from dandelion natural rubber as a polymer.  They plan to manufacture consumer tires made from dandelion-derived rubber in five to 10 years.

Forget about dandelion salads.  Prepare to plow a field for as many dandelions as you can to supply the tire industry with dandelion-derived rubber!
