The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued two recalls. One is for latches on a wheelchair lift in buses. The other is for loose hardware on the brakes of a truck. Both issues could cause injury or death. Of course if brakes fail, the impaired vehicle could crash into other vehicles causing harm,
mayhem or worse.

Summary: Navistar is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 International vehicles manufactured from November 2, 2010 through May 25, 2012, equipped with Bendix air disc brakes. Bolts that fasten the air disc brake caliper to the caliper mounting plate may not have been tightended to their specified torque. This may cause the mouting bolts to become loose and possibly allow the air disc brake caliper to separate from the caliper mounting plate, resulting in an unexpected pull condition during braking application or an unexpected increase in stopping distance. |
Consequence: An unexpected pull condition during braking application or an unexpected increase in stopping distance, increases the risk of a crash, leading to property damage, personal injury, or death. |
Remedy: Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace any missing caliper mounting bolts and tighten caliper mounting bolts, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on October 15, 2012. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-331-332-1590. |
Notes: Navistar's recall number is 12522. Customers may also contact The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV. |
